In the new permanent exhibition, which opened on 15.05.2021, we get an insight into what it was, and is like to live and work right here, on a narrow peninsula in western Iceland. The story is traced from a small fishing village in the 17th century to a modern town with a population of close to 8000.
The exhibition is based on stories, pictures and objects on both floors of the building. In addition, you can see various buildings in the outdoor area, from the fishermen's home of the meetinghouse - and even enjoy the view of Akrafjall, the same mountain viewed by the settlers in the 9th century.
The show is built around live audio guidance and the player you have on hand is very easy to use.
